A particularly interesting conference on the topic "Green Ports & the Future of Sustainable Shipping" was organized on Tuesday, September 2nd on the ship Fior di Levante, which was in the port of Kyllini, with speakers analyzing individual issues related to innovative practices and highlighting the key role of ports in the green transformation of shipping.
The port of Kyllini was not chosen by chance to host the conference. It is the first port in the Eastern Mediterranean to acquire a 500 kVA cold ironing infrastructure for ship power supply from shore, with provision for four power supply points and one electric charging point. A project that is part of the European Union's "Fit for 55" strategy, with the aim that by 2030 all member states will have prepared their ports for the provision of shore-based electricity to docked ships.
Among the distinguished speakers, particularly interesting interventions via the internet were made by the Minister of Infrastructure & Transport, Mr. Christos Dimas, and the Deputy Minister of Shipping & Island Policy, Mr. Stefanos Gkikas.
The conference was attended in person by the president of the Municipal Port Fund of Aigialeia, Mr. Andreas Economou, who on the sidelines of the work had the opportunity to make several useful contacts and conversations within the framework of his responsibilities and always with a view to the further development of the port zone of the Aegean Sea in the direction of the new "green" era.
It is noted that the conference was organized by AMKE ROUTELAB, the Municipality of Andravida-Kyllini, the Municipal Port Fund of Kyllini and the Chamber of Ilia, with the support of OLPA S.A., Levante Ferries and Olympia Odos.
