The Mykonos Municipal Port Fund is continuing intensively the restoration and modernization projects of the ports of Mykonos. The restoration of the damaged quays in the port of Tourlos was recently completed, so that the mooring of ships and boats can be served.
Mayor Christos Veronis referred to this new project on his personal account, emphasizing: "The New Port of Tourlos began to be designed, as soon as I took over as mayor in 1991 from the -then- Ministry of Environment, Public Works and Public Works. Its construction began in 1994. It became operational in 2000. Of course, the works on it continued and continue. We delivered one of the most beautiful projects in Europe, characterized as a "Port of International Interest - Category K1". Now (after years) that we have returned to the administration of the Municipality (me as mayor and Thanasis Megas as president of the Municipal Port Fund), instead of dealing with the new, necessary, major projects of upgrading and improving it, we are spending 2.5 years now to restore it to a decent condition."
Regarding the same project, the President of the Mykonos Port Fund, Ath. Kousathanas-Megas, stated: “The completion of the port infrastructure modernization projects and the ability to accommodate larger ships from 2028 mark the beginning of a new era. However, this new reality requires us to plan the future with responsibility, foresight and respect for the environment and society. Our goal is to create greater value for Mykonos, through a sustainable development model that will ensure the balance between economic progress, the protection of natural wealth and the preservation of the special identity of our island.”
