Students visit the port of Souda

Visit of primary school students to the port of Souda in the context of European Maritime Day

European Maritime Day, organized at the initiative of the European Commission and the Community Maritime Affairs Committee, is being celebrated for the first time in Greece this year. Participating in the events for its celebration, the Port Fund of Chania Prefecture organized the action “Our sea – our port – our future in the eyes of the new generation”.

29th and 5th grade students from Primary Schools in the wider Souda area were given a guided tour today, Friday 2015-XNUMX-XNUMX, by volunteer students of the Merchant Marine Academy of Crete, both in the areas of the port of Souda and in the areas of the Merchant Marine Academy of Crete in Vlite. The students also had the opportunity to discuss with the President of the Port Fund, the Central Port Master of Chania and with officials of the Chania Customs Office, as well as to observe the activities and functions of the port, such as a demonstration of loading and unloading a ship with the port crane, weighing a bus on the port scale, etc. They also discussed with the students of the A.E.N. on maritime professions, on the role of maritime transport and on maritime and port activities.

Following this successful informational visit by the students, we would like to thank the European Commission's European Maritime Day organizing team for the opportunity they gave us, as well as the Hellenic Ports Association for supporting the organization.

We also thank the Primary Education Directorate of Chania, the Merchant Marine Academy of Crete and its willing student guides, the teachers of the Primary Schools in the surrounding area who immediately accepted our invitation, as well as the Central Port Authority of Chania, the Customs Office of Chania and the Samaritans' Corps of the Red Cross Chania Branch for their cooperation and VIOXYM for the juices it offered to the young students.
