Chania Prefecture Port Fund (CHPF)

The Port Authority of Chania is based in the city of Chania and is a non-profit legal entity, with the aim of constructing, maintaining and operating port infrastructure in the Prefecture of Chania. It has jurisdiction over about 25 ports and small harbours, including the ports of Souda, Kavonisi Kissamos, Paleochora, Chora Sfakia, etc.

The LTNH, with 14 staff members, is trying to transform the ports of the Prefecture (e.g. Souda, Kavonisi, etc.) into modern passenger, freight and tourist hubs, as well as to support local economies - societies by maintaining the smaller harbors and fishing shelters that are under its jurisdiction.

Due to its geographical orientation, it is one of the safest ports in the Mediterranean. Today it is a constantly developing port, which contributes decisively to the commercial, tourist and economic development of the Prefecture of Chania.

The Port Fund is a Legal Entity of Public Law, non-profit, operating since 1952, in its current form, with the aim of constructing, maintaining and operating port infrastructure in the Prefecture of Chania. (The exception is the port of Chania, Nea Chora and Agia Kyriaki Halepa, for which the Municipal Port Fund of Chania is responsible.)

For this purpose, the Greek State has granted to the LTNH the use and exploitation of land and sea areas (port zones) around port infrastructures, and has included them under its jurisdiction.

Because the Port Fund has no other financial resources, the payment of fees by those using the port zones has been legally established. Most of these are refundable and are used for the improvement of the ports.
