An important technical project for the restoration of damaged sections of the former American Base pier is being carried out by the Elefsina Port Authority (OLE) S.A., with the aim of maintaining the existing port infrastructure and ensuring the safety of its users.
The pier, with a total length of 235 meters, is made of concrete and metal structures and has suffered damage along a length of approximately 45 meters, due to continuous exposure to extreme weather events, past construction failures, inadequate maintenance over a number of years, as well as excessive strain from continuous shipping activity.
The technical project was deemed necessary and is being implemented in accordance with the specifications of the original construction, in order to ensure the stability, strength and long-term durability of the pier, as well as the safety of its users.
The scheduled repair works are carried out under the supervision of the Technical Service of OLE SA and concern:
-> Restoration of all damaged parts of the pier with modern, alternative materials resistant to marine environments.
-> Installation of sidewalk paving stones.
-> Installation of prefabricated beams.
->Construction of new screw railing.
-> Repair and maintenance of scattered sections of the port infrastructure pavement.
->General cleaning of the area.
The project was assigned to a technical company and will be completed by the end of 2025, while the operation of the port facility will not be interrupted throughout the work.
