HPAG. S.A. Innovative energy and environmental upgrade of the Port of Igoumenitsa

HPAG. S.A., aiming at the energy and environmental upgrade of the port of Igoumenitsa, is at the forefront of transport developments in terms of sustainable mobility and the reduction of the carbon footprint and announces that the project "ALFION – INFRA: Implementation of energy upgrading infrastructure in Igoumenitsa port", with a total budget of €8.925.000,00, was selected as a priority project of the Trans-European Transport Networks by the European Executive Agency for Climate, Infrastructure and the Environment (CINEA).

The ALFION – INFRA project concerns the energy upgrade of the port of Igoumenitsa and the development and implementation of infrastructure projects for the electrical interconnection of the port and ship and is part of the general strategic planning of OLEG S.A. for the transformation of the port of Igoumenitsa into a zero-emission port as well as an energy, transport and social hub.

ALFION – INFRA, expected to launch in November 2023, is the first port-ship electrical interconnection project in Greece and is expected to be 85% financed by the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).

The individual actions of the project concern the optimization of the operation of the port of Igoumenitsa and its energy and environmental upgrade and include, among others, the following:
• Infrastructure works for three (3) port-ship electrical interconnection points during the ship's stay in port
• Development of an energy management system
• Additional port-ship electrical interconnection studies to serve docked cruise ships
• Additional energy upgrade studies through the utilization of RES

The project coordinator is the Port of Igoumenitsa Authority, with participants from the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (HEDDIE), and the PROTEUS team consisting of the companies PROTASIS, HYDRUS, GATES and the Maritime Transport Laboratory of the NTUA.
