The redefinition of the shoreline-beach in the shelters of Sivota, Plataria and Sagiada has been completed, which is a prerequisite for the allocation to the local community of lands in ports that do not serve port functions.
The issuance of the Official Gazettes for the redefinition of the coastline and beach comes as a result of the priority that the administration of the Port of Igoumenitsa Authority has given to the remediation of the above ports since the beginning of its term. In this context, their environmental licensing and operation were completed and the unlicensed siltations for years were legalized, following a decision by the General Secretariat of Port Policy of the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy. It is noted that parts of the ports of Sivota, Plataria and Sagiada in which port activities are not developed will be given to the local community, solving a chronic problem.
The same procedures are underway and will be completed soon for the Igoumenitsa Port Land Zone. Already, in early February, the environmental conditions for the Urban Northern Section (area from the Pantheon building to the tennis courts) were approved and the procedures for legalizing this section as well as the much-discussed Drepano – Makrygiali area are progressing.
The CEO of the Port of Igoumenitsa Authority, Athanasios Porfyris, stated in this regard: “We continue to implement our commitments for the consolidation and performance of the departments at the Igoumenitsa Port, in the context of the needs of the Port and the local community. We thank all the stakeholders for their good cooperation and I hope that we will soon have other positive developments in this direction.”
