A scheduled visit to the Alexandroupolis Port Authority was made on the afternoon of Tuesday, 11.02.2020, by the Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food, Mr. Konstantinos Skrekas, following an invitation from the Administration.
Mr. Skrekas participated in a meeting with the President of the Organization, Mr. Konstantinos Hadjimichael, and the CEO, Mr. Konstantinos Chantjikonstantinou, with the agenda including issues of the Deputy Minister's portfolio and responsibilities related to fishing sanctuaries.
The main topic of discussion was the port of Makri and the infrastructure projects. The repair and restoration project of the new windward pier, which suffered serious damage in 2015 and is in danger of complete collapse due to inactivity, is considered an emergency and immediate intervention project, while the port protection project with the construction of a breakwater at its entrance is intended to make it possible to dock more and larger fishing and recreational vessels and to further upgrade the port and the area.
Officials and executives of the Alexandroupolis Port Authority participated in the analysis of the technical issues, while the Member of Parliament for Evros, Mr. Christos Dermentzopoulos, was also present at the meeting.
