Heraklion June 25, 2026
On the occasion of June 25, World Seafarers' Day, the Heraklion Port Authority expresses its deepest respect, gratitude and unwavering support to the men and women who constitute the heart of global shipping.
In a period of intense geopolitical challenges, our seafarers continue to keep the global supply chain and economy alive, facing adverse conditions and serious dangers at sea every day. But behind the numbers and tons of goods, lies an enormous human sacrifice: life away from home, the loneliness of the ocean and the nostalgia for their families, whom they have been deprived of for many months.
The CEO of OLI, Mr. Minas Papadakis, in his statement said: “World Seafarers' Day is not just a date on the calendar; it is the minimum honor due to the people who selflessly tame the waves so that we on land lack nothing.
We turn our gaze with deep emotion to the people behind the wheel, who are experiencing the harsh reality of separation. It is this silent, daily sacrifice of distance and anticipation, which only they and their families know, that fills us with awe and immense respect for their work.
As the Heraklion Port Authority, constituting a safe gateway and a warm refuge for the crews, we are committed to always being by their side, offering the best possible conditions of hospitality and support. To our sea wolves, who hold the fate of the world in their hands, I wish from the bottom of my heart safe travels and peaceful seas. Our thoughts and gratitude accompany them in every port and in every ocean.”
HPA S.A. will continue to actively support the human factor in shipping, recognizing that seafarers are the most valuable link in our maritime tradition and our future.
