10 August 2026 Piraeus Port Authority S.A. celebrates today the completion of ten years since the inclusion of COSCO SHIPPING in its shareholder structure, an investment that laid the foundations for the substantial transformation of the Port of Piraeus into one of the most dynamic and multifunctional ports in the Mediterranean.
Over the last decade, the Piraeus Port Authority has experienced unprecedented growth, and in different sectors at the same time. In container handling, Piraeus has evolved from a regional port to a leading transshipment hub in the Mediterranean. In cruises, an activity that has seen impressive growth in recent years, with steadily increasing passenger traffic and new historical highs, Piraeus has emerged as a leading homeporting destination. In shipbuilding, the upgrade projects of the Perama Shipbuilding Zone continue, strengthening a sector of key importance for Greek shipping. At the Car Terminal, the main gateway for Greek vehicle imports, the infrastructure expansion was completed. And of course, at the Coastal Ferry Terminal, the Port of Piraeus remains the largest in Europe in terms of passenger traffic, effectively supporting the insularity of our country.
Beyond infrastructure, this decade also marked a broader economic and social contribution: the port today supports thousands of jobs, strengthens the local economy of the port municipalities and is an integral part of their everyday life.
This strategy was accompanied by the systematic integration of ESG criteria into the operation of the Organization, with stable investments in environmental infrastructure, energy upgrading and protection of the marine and atmospheric environment. At the same time, the creation of the PPA Park, a modern green and recreational space that will be attributed to the citizens of Piraeus, reflects the company's commitment to connecting the port with the city and the local community.
On the occasion of this important anniversary, the CEO of Piraeus Port Authority S.A. Mr. Su Xudong stated: “These ten years have proven that COSCO SHIPPING’s investment in Piraeus was an investment of trust in the capabilities of the port, the country and its people. We would like to thank the Greek State for the excellent cooperation over the years, the stakeholders of the port and of course the Piraeus Port Authority family for their decisive contribution to all the above achievements. We are proud of what we have achieved together, but we are already looking ahead: the next decade will be built on this solid foundation, with new investments, a stronger commitment to sustainability and a vision to make Piraeus an even more modern, green and competitive port of international scope.”
