Thessaloniki, June 5, 2026

The major meeting – a landmark of global shipping, taking place these days in Athens, brings to Greece the leaders of the international shipping scene and places Greek ports at the epicenter of developments. The Thessaloniki Port Authority participates in Posidonia 2026, a reference point for the dialogue on the future of shipping and maritime transport. This year’s event brings together thousands of industry professionals, representatives of shipping companies, ports, technology providers and logistics operators from all over the world.

During the exhibition, executives of the Thessaloniki Port Authority held a series of meetings with representatives of the international shipping and port industry, exchanging views on the developments that strengthen ports and supply chains. At a time when the search for sustainable and resilient trade corridors is upgrading the role of port infrastructure, visitors showed particular interest in the upgrading of the port of Thessaloniki and the new opportunities that are being created for the wider region.

The participation of Thessaloniki Port Authority S.A. in Posidonia coincides with an important juncture for the port, which is implementing the largest investment program in its history. At the center of the discussions was the expansion of Pier 6, a project that is expected to significantly enhance the capacity and international competitiveness of the port, allowing the service of mainline ships and further upgrading the role of Thessaloniki as a gateway for trade and logistics development for Southeastern and Central Europe.

At the same time, the meetings highlighted issues that are currently at the center of the international dialogue on shipping and ports, such as the digitalization of operations, sustainability and strengthening the resilience of supply chains. These are priorities that are already integrated into the investment and operational planning of the Thessaloniki Port Authority S.A., as the transformation of the port is directly linked to the creation of a more efficient, sustainable and technologically advanced port infrastructure.

The CEO of ThPA S.A., Dr. Ioannis Tsaras, stated: “Our participation in Posidonia 2026 confirms the active role of the Port of Thessaloniki in the international dialogue on the future of shipping, Greek ports and the supply chain. In a period in which resilience, sustainability and connectivity are gaining decisive importance, the Thessaloniki Port Authority S.A. is consistently implementing a development program that substantially upgrades the port’s capabilities and strengthens Thessaloniki’s position as a strategic trade and transport gateway for Southeastern Europe. Focusing on the expansion of Pier 6, we are investing in infrastructure, technology and partnerships that create value for the shipping community, the national economy, the city and the wider region.”
